Newborn Photo Session Guide

What a special time in your life! Here’s a quick guide to help you prepare for your newborn session.

Top tips for the best newborn photos

  • It’s best to plan the session for when the baby is calm and well rested. Feed your newborn right before the session, and it can be helpful if they are napping during the session.
  • Make sure the room is warm, and, if needed, play soothing sounds to help your newborn stay calm.
  • Always ensure the baby’s head and neck are properly supported.
  • I will use soft, natural lighting, so placement near windows will be helpful.
  • Newborns are unpredictable, so it is best to focus on being present in the moment. It’s such a special time!

What to wear and provide?

  • Avoid wearing anything that will distract from the baby. Solids in soft colors or very small prints are best.
  • Use soft, neutral colored blankets or wraps.
  • Any props you might want are welcome, and not required. Some options are knitted hats/headbands, plush toys, baskets, faux fur or sheepies, floral arrangements, books, family heirlooms, balloons, and letterboards just to name a few!

Sometimes the most beautiful photos come from quiet, intimate moments of connection. Be patient and enjoy yourself!
